Chakya Muna – Nestled above a magical river, less than five minutes from the cultural epicenter of Ubud, lies an enclave where the cycles of nature are honored and everyone thrives supported by powerful creative and healing energies, sustainable systems and a connection to the sacred land. Set amongst lush gardens are spaces for yoga, dance, healing work, meditation, communion with nature, gatherings, live music and celebrations.
There are many places on the land to be one with nature: a spring water swimming pool, hidden jungle nooks, swimming holes, waterfalls and sprawling terraces by the river. Every living space has a distinctive feeling, sanctuaries within the sanctuary. Love permeates every nook of the land and is expressed through every detail.
Chakya Muna is blessed with multiple freshwater springs, which supply the water via all faucets, showers and the pool! It is pumped up from the springs to storage tanks by a RAM pump, which uses no electricity, then purified using a carbon-filter and UV sterilizer, preserving the living vibration of the water. It is truly healing to drink, bathe, and swim in the pure spring water!
We are on one of the most sacred rivers in Bali, the Petanu. It is clean and wonderful to swim in. To the north it is shallower (but deep enough for a swim), narrow with high rock walls and small waterfalls. About 100 meters upstream are beautiful rocky rapids, great for a mid-day for a sun kissed meditation or to let the water massage away anything that wants to be swept away! Through the southern access point, you can jump from rocks or just wade into a deep swimming hole and be surrounded by waterfalls, banyan, guava and coconut trees.
There are a variety of sleeping rooms, all with sweeping river and valley views. Some have private terraces, one has a private garden, others are antique Javanese or Sumatran buildings. All are magical. Sign up early to select your room!
The Banitilan (open-air pavilion) is for dancing, lounging, hanging out and enjoying the view. The Library lounge is stocked with spiritual and ecological books on Bali and beyond. The yoga temple has a reclaimed-wood floor and beautiful river view. There is a meditation bale (raised covered lounge), a fire circle and multiple terraces by the river. And for those who want to stay in touch with the world, there is free wireless internet access.
Dance to the rhythms of Mystic Journey in the beautiful pavilion!
Special note from Suzanne: “Chakya Muna is one of the most special places that I have ever been to. This past February I was an artist-in-residence in Bali with an international program called APPEX. The timing of this invitation was auspicious. My mother had passed the previous fall and shortly after her passing, I was guided by a clairvoyant to return her ashes to her birthplace. She was born in Indonesia and although I was initially hesitant, I felt I was meant to do this for her. I had a hugely profound experience when I offered her ashes to this sacred river. I knew her spirit was free at last. A dragonfly sat with me and after my time on the river, I knew I was meant to return to this place regularly. This retreat has evolved from that calling. I invite you to join us on this mystic journey on the sacred river… so that you too can experience the magic and healing the spirits have to offer. “ 11/8/10
